This service involves the insertion of a new urinary catheter or its replacement and is performed by specialized nursing staff. The urinary catheter can be either a simple or silicone catheter. The choice is made by the attending physician based on the recommended change frequency. Simple catheters are used to meet specific needs, and their removal must occur within 14 days. In contrast, silicone catheters can be used for up to 30 days. A strict aseptic procedure is followed during catheter insertion/replacement to avoid further infections and complications. Additionally, the patient is informed about the movements they are allowed to make after the catheter insertion, and before removal, our specialized staff prepares the patient with bladder exercises.

Catheter insertion/replacement is recommended in the following cases:

  • In the presence of a wound (pressure ulcer)
  • When it is necessary to collect 24-hour urine for laboratory testing
  • If the patient already has a catheter but is unable to void urine
